The German Securities Trading Act (§ 15 WpHG) requires the issuers of publicly listed shares to publish important pieces of news regarding the company as “ad-hoc announcements” if they relate to the company, are not publicly known and have the potential to significantly affect the share price. This is intended to avoid information relevant to the share price only being available to insiders, who might use this head start in terms of knowledge to their own benefit.
